At the SBC we use the same coordinate system you describe:
x-direction: horizontal,
                    perpendicular to the nominal white beam center line,
                    positive = from the center of the storage ring outward;
y-direction: vertical, positive = up
z-direction: parallel to the nominal white beam center line,
                    positive = downstream

We also use the term outboard and inboard for the positive and negative x-direction. We do not use left or right since it depends on the definition of the view. We use the camera men's view if the terms left and right are used.

In all our documentations , component drawings etc. we use the users' view, i.e. looking from outside toward the center of the storage ring, as opposed to the facility's view, i.e. from the inside out. Therefore, the beam goes from right to left. Otherwise, you have to plot all your drawings mirror image in order to fit reality on the beam line.
