IDL availability

    Folks,

To download IDL for a trial period do the following:

- FTP to RSINC.COM, user=anonymous, password=your e-mail address.

- 'cd pub/idl'

- 'ls' to see the files and directories them. There are separate directories
  for Unix, VMS, Windows and Mac.

- FTP the files in these directories to your machine.

Install IDL on your machine. On Unix and VMS IDL will run for 7 minutes at a
time, and will then kick you out. A few features (e.g. writing files) are
disabled in 7 minute demo mode.

You can call them and get a 30 day trial license for free.

To try it with channel access get the new version of CaWave via anonymous FTP
from cars1.uchicago.edu in pub/epics.
