slew scan vs. step scan

What provisions have folks made for doing 
slew scans in EPICS (as opposed to step scans)?

Of course, slew-scanning has obvious benefits,
in some situations, over the more traditional step scan.
Initial line-up, for example.  'Where's that ^%#! peak now?'

One way would be to oversee this with a
sequence program in the VME crate that 
acquires information as fast as possible
(or the desired rate, if slower) and stores
into a couple waveform records (x & y).

My question is 'Has anyone thought this through
any further?  Or better still, does anyone have
slew scanning already in place and will give me
their code, complete, with the required 
Engbretson-style documentation set?'
