Beamline control meeting

SciDXP - The future of User Support?

Eric Boucher

Friday August 29th, 11:00 am, B2100.

SciDXP - Scientific Data eXchange and Processing - is intended to
provide a framework allowing access and manipulation of data,
independently from where they're coming from and where they're going to.

Beamline users are confronted by day to day problems. They really need
to have them fixed as fast as possible so they can do efficient science.
But what is the best answer for them AND for the support staff? The
quick fix? The small piece of code that will workaround the problem?
The answer is often: Yes!

But to be really efficient, you should also look forward. Will you be
able to quickly fix your small piece of code or add a small piece of
code to your quick fix? To avoid building chaotic solution which you'll
have to throw away because it became unmaintainable and start all over
again, you need a solid framework. A solid ground on which you can add
stable blocks. SciDXP is intended to provide such a framework.
