Dear Colleagues:

We write to inform you that the Division of Materials Physics (DMP) will
sponsor a set of focused sessions on the topic 'Advanced detectors for
Synchrotron Research' at the 2003 March APS Meeting in Austin, TX (March
3-7, '03). This focus session will provide a forum for the discussion
of
detector-imposed limitations on experiments which would be otherwise
possible using present-day sources; and to look at solutions to these
problems by advanced detector systems that are either existing, in
development, or proposed. This subject is made more compelling when we
consider the additional pressure, which will be imposed by newer sources
such as FEL's and linac-based undulator. Papers describing experiments,
which are frustrated by detector limitations and also those describing
innovative solutions, which might address the limitations, are invited.
We
remind potential contributors that the abstract submission deadline is
December 6th.
