VME crates in white beam enclosures

Is anyone planning on putting a VME crate in an undulator white beam
enclosure? At issue is the radiation hardness of the crate and
electronics.

Access to the scalers and other electrical connections can be satisfied
with remote patch panels and dedicated wiring. Remote reset of the
crate controller can be made with the APS crate transtion board.

It seems the choice is down to how much risk a CAT is willing to take:
[1] radiation damage to the crate electronics
     vs.
[2] noise pickup on cable that transit through the labyrinths

[1] is an acute failure mode while [2] is a chronic failure mode.

Any strong opinions out there? Any facts to back up those opinions?
