IDL 4.0.1 for Linux is ready for delivery. If you are interested in
purchasing IDL for Linux, read this and call your Research Systems sales rep
(303-786-9900) for details or send an email to 'info@rsinc.com'.

        Technical Info:

IDL for Linux was built under Linux 1.2.8 using Slackware version 2.2. A
statically compiled version that should work with older versions of the
Linux kernel (e.g., Linux 1.0.9), is also included.

With the following exception, IDL for Linux is a complete implementation of
IDL, ensuring code portability across Windows, Mac, Unix, Linux, and VMS:
CALL_EXTERNAL, LINKIMAGE, and Callable IDL are not available, though they
may be implemented sometime after the ELF file format is standard on Linux
systems.

        Price of IDL for Linux:

IDL for Linux costs the same as IDL for Windows or Macintosh, with the same
support and update policies. The license of IDL for Linux is node-locked.
This is different than the Windows or Mac versions of IDL, which have a HASP
dongle that can be moved from machine to machine. Therefore, to use IDL for
Linux at home an additional license is required.

IDL for Linux Home Use Option(tm)
(may be unavailable in some countries):

Since many Linux users are students or professionals working at home,
Research Systems is offering a special Home Use price until Oct. 31:

-- price is 1/3 of the Windows or Macintosh commercial list price
(IDL for Linux Home Use Option costs $500 in the USA)
-- includes CD-ROM or Internet downloading (with IDL 4.0.1 for Unix)
 -- includes IDL Basics tutorial
-- includes over 1600 pages of hypertext, on-line help (no paper manuals)

        Home Use Option Restrictions:

Individuals who use a license of IDL at work or who are enrolled as students
are eligible to purchase the IDL Home Use Option. You must complete an
eligibility verification and agreement form (below) to qualify for the Home
Use Option.

* Students must prove they are now taking classes at a degree-granting
institution. Include a copy of your current class schedule and valid student
ID with your order.

* Professionals must have access to IDL at work, confirmed by providing an
installation number for one of the systems you use at work.

* All buyers must sign a special license in which you agree to keep this
version at home. This license agreement is included below.

* This price includes installation assistance only...no 'free' support or
major updates. If you purchase Technical Support service you can get support
regardless of the machine you happen to be using. Major updates will be
available at a discount to licensees of the Home Use Option.

When Ordering the Home Use Option:

--Include a signed copy of the agreement listed below

--Professionals: include the IDL installation number for the system
you use at work

--Students: include a copy of your current class schedule and
valid student ID

--Enclose a check for $500 for the software plus $8 shipping and handling
for sales within the United States. Mail USA orders to:

        International Pricing May Vary:

Please note that Research Systems, Inc. (Boulder, CO) does not set the
prices that our distributors charge. These independent businesses may choose
different prices, discounts, or no discounts at all. In any event, we hope
you are pleased to have the flexibility of a popular, Unix-like operating
